MIXED AGE GROUPS

The Montessori method has mixed age group classes of about 3 years span.   This system allows for natural social interplay and it allows children to help each other in their daily tasks.   The teacher guides the classroom but realises that learning takes place more easily as children interact with each other.    Older children help younger children and while they do that they reinforce their own knowledge.

MONTESSORI INFANT TODDLER

Montessori developed a programme to help parents and those working with children under 3 to understand the deep respect and correct stimulation for this very important stage of development. Infant/Toddler (0-3 years) centres provide a strong caring environment with simple stimulating activities. The course covers all aspects of the life of the infant and the toddler including pre-natal life, parents caring in the home and day care.

MONTESSORI PRE SCHOOL

Montessori pre schools provide a stimulating and orderly environment where children can develop to their full potential without stress but providing opportunities to satisfy their hunger for knowledge and fun. In Montessori pre-schools (3-6 years) the child is offered an opportunity to practice daily life skills in an orderly manner and to expand awareness of the world about her/him through using a beautiful array of self correcting materials and practical activities. In a Montessori pre-school children are given opportunities to develop the skill of concentration in a way that is enjoyable and satisfying.

MONTESSORI ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Montessori built her programme for schools on the theme of cosmic education using imagination as the driving force in learning.  In Elementary Schools (6-12 years) learning is exciting and is only limited by the child’s interest.   Skills of life, such as co-operating within a group or managing one’s own work are acquired by the children.    The curriculum is followed by guiding children to explore the world about them indoors and outdoors.  Children use educational materials, books and computers.

MONTESSORI SECONDARY SCHOOLS (ADOLESCENT)

Montessori had an exciting plan for adolescent schools called Erdkinder (earth children).    Unfortunately this programme cannot be put fully into practice in modern conditions but many Montessori second level schools use Montessori principles to run their schools and provide for self motivated learning.    Secondary/High Schools or Upper Schools Schools allow young people to follow the requirements of the national curriculum in a stimulating and free atmosphere.   Adult skills are encouraged by the structure of the daily curriculum.
