THEORY MODULE

100% online study including

·         Reading about Montessori theory online—6 chapters

·         Self assessments and reflective exercises, reading Dr. Montessori’s books

·         Long and short questions for each chapter

·         Chat rooms in real time

·         Discussion boards

·         Tutor support

Approximately 450 hours study including:

·         Online study

·         Reading

·         Student assignments

·         Student project presented to peers comparing Montessori to another educator

·         Home written examination

Studied from November to June each year:


·         Fast track over one season

·         Slow track over two seasons

·         Online home examination in June each year

Modules A & B in alternate years

·         Module A 2009/11/13

·         Module B 2010/12/14

·         You may start with Module A OR Module B

Two workshops EACH year for EACH module

·         Summer — learn about and practice with materials =10 days

·         Autumn—assessment and examination =3.5days

Approximately 250 hours study for each module including:

·         Workshops

·         Student assignments (albums/files, materials, projects)

·         Practical examination

How many years?  - A minimum of two summers/autumns

Approximately 250 hours study (100 for second age group) including:

·         Hours spent working with children in Montessori and other settings

·         Student assignments (reflection, logbook and observations)

·         Second or subsequent age group requires half the number of practice hours.

You identify a Montessori school / centre near you for the age group you are studying.

·         This school should be recognised by Waterpark.

·         Guided by your tutor you will arrange practice weeks.

The practice hours required are as follows:

·         0 -3 Infant Toddler: 2 weeks with individual infants/toddlers; 2 weeks in Montessori centre;20 hours unsupervised

·         3-6 Pre-School: 4 weeks in Montessori classroom 3-6; 20 hours with children unsupervised

·         6-9 Lower School : 2 weeks in Montessori classroom 6-9; 2 weeks Montessori classroom 6-12; 20 hours unsupervised

·         9-12 Middle School: 2 weeks in Montessori classroom 9-12; 2 weeks Montessori classroom 6-12; 20 hours unsupervised

·         Adolescent: 2 weeks in Montessori adolescent classroom; 2 weeks 3-12 Montessori classrooms; 20 hours unsupervised
